Affordable, superior quality energy chain

2nd Quarter 2015 Other technologies

Powermite’s affordable range of superior quality EKD Kolibri energy chain is widely used in ports, harbours and industrial and water treatment plants that require the protection of cable, hose or hydraulic supply lines on a fixed plane at a fixed or variable speed. Energy (drag) chain is a neat, simple and cost effective means of preventing snags and premature breakdowns in mobile equipment. The comprehensive range includes galvanised, stainless and carburised steel, as well as a plastic range which consists of self-extinguishing, ATEX-rated, bi-directional chain. The portfolio extends to chains for ultra-long distances capable of maintaining speeds of up to 200 m/minute.

The one-part link or flap-open link range has various bending radii. Either it has separate end-connectors or each link is used as an end-connector. While the EKD Kolibri range has external sizes of 15 mm x15 mm through to 65 mm x 225 mm, the EKD PKK range can handle external sizes up to 100 mm x 340 mm. The steel external sizes start from 50 mm high going up to 1500 mm wide. The wide range of bending radii suits larger cables.

The chain has cost saving benefits that make it suited for use across a wide range of applications (robotics, materials handling) and equipment (cranes, milling and boring machines). The patented opening delivers superior rigid torsion behaviour and handling while the flap-open bars ensure easy access for on-site installation of hoses or cables. The chain can handle sustained temperatures between -20 and 100°C and is extremely wear resistant, so very little maintenance is needed.
