Simple set-up of automated cells

3rd Quarter 2016 Robotics & Mechatronics

With the Sinumerik 828 controllers, Siemens is now offering a simple solution for connecting robots to machine tools. This represents an integral part of automated production cell set-up. To perform handling tasks, different types of robots designed by different manufacturers can now be connected to machines fitted with Sinumerik 828D CNC controllers using the Sinumerik Integrate Run MyRobot/EasyConnect interface. This enables companies of any size to set up automated cells cost-effectively and without major effort, even on serial machines and with different types of CNC controls using the same standard interface. This new solution for setting up automated cells is topped off with features for the simple optimisation of work processes on machine tools, mobile condition monitoring and remote maintenance round-off.

Fully automated work processes are another important aspect of setting up automated cells. Siemens provides a comprehensive range of smart touch technologies that are integrated into the production environment. At the same time, operators can access network memories and inspect contract documents at the user interface.

Functions facilitating remote diagnosis of machine tools are the third component of the solution for setting up automated cells. With Sinumerik Integrate Access MyMachine, Siemens provides convenient and reliable functions for remote diagnosis using a corporate network or Internet access. This provides a quick overview of the machine history in addition to machine access. The Sinumerik controller permits uploading and downloading of machine data, files, trip recorders and configurable PLC traces. Text message or e-mail notifications in cases of unusual machine conditions are also possible.
