From a great start with last year's Second Quarter edition, the magazine continues to do well at 40 pages.
Motion Control Buyers' Guide
Those of you familiar with the Instrumentation and Control Buyers' Guide will be thrilled to know that we are putting together a similar style package for the motion control industry. This will be a great help to those needing to find that particular part, service or supplier for anything to do with hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical drives.
SA motion control industry
After some six years of editing SA Instrumentation and Control - and the past year's experiences (with some character building) with its sister publication - I am of the considered opinion that our motion control and fluid power industry is poised for a period of increased growth.
Engineers, like all other mortals, are readily motivated when they see examples of how a particular solution can be used with success in scenarios not too different to their own. A significant percentage of I&C companies have long-established marketing efforts that work at churning out good application stories for their products. While there are also companies in the fluid power industry that are active in this regard, generally the motion control corner of industry has been much quieter. Experience has shown us that there is a significant correlation between (media-derived) sales and the quantity of well-written application editorial.
This corner of industry is beginning to move from a state where cards were being held close to the chest, to one where the players are being more vocal about what they have to offer. When it becomes easier for the engineers/end users to quickly see what they are looking for, solutions become more apparent and business picks up. The steady growth in the South African economy will continue bringing opportunities - and it is Motion Control's goal to continue to be a clear window that provides you the reader with a good view of what is available.
