Additives drive fuel efficiency and engine protection

Second Quarter 2026 Other technologies

Global oil markets are under renewed pressure as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East disrupts supply routes and energy infrastructure, pushing crude prices sharply higher and driving up diesel costs worldwide, with further volatility expected as supply constraints persist.

These rising fuel costs and increasing pressure on equipment reliability are driving demand for solutions that improve diesel engine efficiency. BMG addresses this requirement in Africa through its range of Liqui Moly additives, which offers a practical solution by enhancing combustion, cleaning fuel systems and maximising the energy extracted from every litre of fuel.

Included in BMG’s Liqui Moly range is the Super Diesel Additive, formulated especially for modern diesel engines and today’s low-sulphur fuels. This high-performance additive is suitable for many applications, from passenger and commercial vehicles to heavy-duty machinery used in the construction, agriculture, mining and transport sectors.

The Super Diesel Additive combines cleaning, dispersing and material-protection agents with cetane number improvers. This integrated approach enhances ignition performance, resulting in more efficient combustion, particularly during cold starts, while also reducing exhaust odours and emissions.

“Proper fuel treatment plays a critical role in extending equipment life and maintaining efficiency in demanding operating environments. Poor-quality or untreated fuel can compromise performance, increase maintenance requirements and accelerate wear,” says Carlo Beukes, business unit manager of BMG’s Power Transmission division. “The regular use of high-quality additives helps to stabilise engine operation, reduce fuel consumption and lower the risk of unplanned downtime.

“An important performance advantage of the Liqui Moly Super Diesel Additive is its ability to maintain a clean fuel system. By preventing the build-up of deposits and keeping injection nozzles clean, the additive ensures consistent fuel delivery and stable engine operation. At the same time, improved lubricity protects sensitive components like injection pumps and injectors that rely on the fuel itself for lubrication in high-pressure systems. This is crucial here as low-sulphur diesel may not provide sufficient natural lubrication. The Super Diesel Additive offers a straightforward, yet effective, means of improving diesel engine performance for our customers who seek practical ways to reduce operating costs and extend asset life.”

Liqui Moly Super Diesel Additive contributes to improved fuel economy through enhanced combustion efficiency. By increasing the cetane number, the additive enables smoother engine running, improved acceleration response and easier starting. The result is not only better performance, but also measurable savings in fuel usage.

In addition to performance benefits, the additive provides corrosion protection within the fuel system by forming a protective layer on metallic components. This helps to minimise the effects of water contamination and other aggressive elements that can cause long-term damage. The product also ensures engine preservation during periods of inactivity, making it suitable for seasonal equipment or machinery operating under intermittent conditions.

BMG supports its Liqui Moly range with technical expertise and application guidance, ensuring customers select the correct additive for their specific requirements. The combination of product quality and specialist support enables businesses to enhance equipment reliability, improve efficiency and minimise maintenance requirements.
