Caliper brakes for draglines

3rd Quarter 2011 Pneumatic systems & components

The Coremo E4N caliper brake is a pneumatic spring-applied brake designed for heavy duty applications such as draglines, where it is used worldwide to provide smooth, accurate and reliable braking. The replacement of drum or low inertia brakes with Coremo calipers on hoist, swing or propel motors has a number of advantages. Firstly, maintenance of the brake is easier. For example the replacement time for friction pads is reduced from one hour to a couple of minutes per brake. The brakes are also easier to adjust. In addition they have a higher thermal capacity, especially in emergency stopping of the dragline’s bucket. It easily handles multiple and consecutive high energy stops.

The caliper is also available with side mounting for easier and less expensive installation on draglines. The thruster comes with a low release pressure option for applications where the available air pressure can be lower than usual. Various types of friction material are available, depending on the specific application. The brake can be supplied with a special treatment against corrosion to increase the life of parts in aggressive environments.

The Coremo E4N caliper brake has proven safety, passing the motor stall test for all motor frames. Rebuilds are very inexpensive and can be performed inhouse. It has the lowest cost of ownership of any brake on the market.
