The THK SSR range of LM guides is available from SKF South Africa and features THK's Caged Ball technology. The result is a high speed, low noise and virtually maintenance free linear motion system, which reduces rolling resistance fluctuation to 1/10 of previous levels and has an operating life of up to 40 000 km on its primary sealed grease.
The compact, low profile SSR LM guide is available in five models, with standard rail lengths ranging from 160 mm to 3 m. Each model can be supplied in a variety of configurations and, in particular, the user is able to specify a choice of normal, high precision, super precision or ultra precision accuracy levels.
The ball contact surfaces in the LM guide block are perpendicular to the vertical line of force, making the SSR particularly suitable for horizontal guide mechanisms and applications with high radial loads.
Designed for easy installation, the SSR is capable of self-adjustment to absorb any errors in parallelism between the two axes and any difference in levels between the top surfaces, ensuring highly accurate linear motion is achieved. If subjected to uneven loads, the two point circular arc contact of the balls will not produce any differential slip, but will continue to circulate smoothly. This contributes significantly to both excellent wear resistance and accuracy over the full lifetime of the guide.
The guide is available with a choice of type W standard tapped blocks or type V short blocks for applications where space is at a premium. Typically, the type V blocks are in the region of 30% shorter in length than the standard unit. Multiple blocks can be specified for a single rail length and a choice of side and end seals are offered to best suit the requirements of the application.
High-grade stainless steel configurations are available for applications where corrosion resistance may be an issue, or where other harsh environmental factors may impact on the operation of the system.
