Remote monitoring of hydraulic systems
Second Quarter 2005
Hydraulic systems & components
Bosch Rexroth has come up with a concept to prevent breakdowns, plan maintenance activities, measure machine performance and determine operating trends.
Available from Hytec, the central data administration service is structured to specifically cater for recording system variables that influence the operating life span of components or system performance over an extended period. Using a data acquisition system sourcing the primary data from a machine via various sensors, a GSM network then carries regular updates to a basestation for processing. Through a Web-based user interface, users can thus access and monitor hydraulic systems no matter where they are located through a secure link. The system can be set to only capture abnormal information into the database if the user so chooses.
Apart from the advantages mentioned above, this system allows for operating costs to be optimised and gives users 24/7 access to a process from anywhere in the world. Typical examples of remote monitoring possibilities include oil temperatures, filter element condition, oil contamination levels, oil level, case pressure, suction pressure and operating time. While its focus is primary on hydraulic systems, the variables for tracking overall machine performance can easily be added to the service. The system also allows for alarms to be generated when a customer defined condition is met.
Bosch Rexroth is confident that the obvious advantages in terms of breakdown prevention, predictive maintenance, production optimisation and remote monitoring and planning will see Trended establishing itself in factories around the world.

Those working with hydraulic or pneumatic systems know that keeping your machinery running at peak performance balances productivity and cost. As systems age, they often become less efficient, requiring more energy and more frequent repairs. The good news is that you don’t always need to invest in an entirely new machine to solve these problems.
