Ausco pioneered spring-applied hydraulically released multidisc brakes in 1971. Today, its engineering, design, test and development, and production capabilities are among the best in supplying brakes to the off-highway industry. Because these brakes are easily designed into power transmission systems they have many engineering features that translate into important user and specifier benefits. There are more than 100 standard models - all with standard SAE J744 mounting flange dimensions. They operate on either charge pressure or system pressure up to 20 MPa.
The brakes are complete self-contained packages, so no extra brackets and no shimming is required, they are spring-loaded and hydraulically released. Most models have bearing-supported shafts. Applications would include construction, mining, agriculture, lifting, industrial and marine equipment. The new generation line offers reduced size, improved price, increased pressure capability, less corrosion (WET) and longer component life (WET). Ausco is represented in South Africa by Axiom Hydraulics, a member of the South African Fluid Power Association.
