New 40-ton press produced in-house

Hydraulic systems & components
Hytec has designed and built the hydraulic components for a 40 t(force) press used in the manufacture of motor vehicle carpet mouldings. The hydraulic specialists achieved the 392 kN force with a 160-bore cylinder at an oil pressure of 21,5 MPa.
The press, installed by Hytec Durban, is designed to have a fast approach, following which it reverts into a slow approach for the next 45 mm and then exerts a 392 kN force on the carpet/felt material to mould it. By directing oil flow of 40 litres per minute to both sides of the cylinder and creating regenerative motion, Hytec has enabled the press to reach speeds as high as 80 mm/s over 450 mm. Slow speed is achieved by re-directing the flow to the bore side only. Accurate control of press speed comes courtesy of a 'horsepower-controlled' variable piston pump, the 5,5 kW A10V28DFLR.
The 392 kN holding force is maintained for 30 minutes by means of the pump de-stroking to minimum flow. When the cylinder is ready to retract, the oil will de-compress to a pressure of 6 MPa, controlled by a Hydac pressure switch. A variety of other Hydac components were incorporated in the design, starting with the plate cooler and temperature switch used to keep oil temperature constant. The oil level is monitored by a Hydac level gauge/switch, while oil cleanliness is achieved via a Hydac return filter and vane pump, which doubles as a filling and cooling unit. The frame is built from Rexroth Bosch aluminium profiling.
Automating the production of these carpet mouldings has resulted in an overall improvement in quality resulting from increased accuracy, consistency and the elimination of production errors.

Hydraulic systems & components
Those working with hydraulic or pneumatic systems know that keeping your machinery running at peak performance balances productivity and cost. As systems age, they often become less efficient, requiring more energy and more frequent repairs. The good news is that you don’t always need to invest in an entirely new machine to solve these problems.
