Hydraulic-driven decanting centrifuges

First Quarter 2005 Hydraulic systems & components

SKF, global specialist in the manufacture of quality bearings and associated products, as well as distributor of sealing systems, power transmission and couplings, is the official distributor of the Hiller decanter centrifuges and hydraulic drives to Sub Sahara Africa.

ISO 9001 certified, Hiller offers more than 30 years experience in the manufacture of both series and custom-built decanter centrifuges. Hiller has developed and manufactured over 3000 centrifuges and the products are operating in diverse industries including sewage and effluent, mining, minerals and oil production, paper, chemical pharmaceutical and food and beverage production.

Hiller decanters have been particularly successful in the food and beverage industry such as breweries, olive, palm and fish oil. After an extensive trial period with a Hiller mobile test rig, a Decafood high-performance food industry decanter was installed for the production of carrot juice.

Although the requirements of a Hiller customer, one of the most renowned producers of baby food, fruit and vegetable juices in Germany, were very demanding, the Hiller Decafood decanter met and surpassed them. The high performance Hiller Decafood decanter has demonstrated clear advantages of the technology used so far in critical areas such as yield, CIP (cleaning in place), maintenance and cleaning costs (staff and materials). Consequently the old plant was immediately decommissioned and removed.

Hiller uses high quality stainless steel grades and a wide range of wear protection measures in manufacturing processes to ensure optimum product quality and long life and is ideally suited to chemical and pharmaceutical industrial plants which demand safe and trouble free operation.

The decanters are available for solid-liquid separation (2-phases) as well as liquid-liquid (3-phase) separation and boast a wide range of impressive features including:

* High performance - up to 100 000 l/h processing capacity.

* High quality stainless steel grades and wide range of wear protection measures ensures long life and high product quality.

* Solid construction.

* Economical - long life wear protection, reduced operating, service and maintenance costs.

* User-friendly, easy operation.

* Low energy and noise levels.

Hydraulic drives for decanter centrifuges include motors, hydraulic sets and control systems. State-of-the-art Hiller hydraulic motors generate the differential speed of the screw conveyor in decanters and are designed for pressures up to 25 MPa and torques up to 17 kNm.

Hiller's high efficiency hydraulic sets are available as open-loop controllable axial reciprocating pumps offering low power consumption and low noise levels. Flexible control systems for hydraulic scroll drives with the ability to respond to the increasing complex demands and process requirements also form part of the Hiller product range.
