Easy to install elastomeric seals

First Quarter 2005 Other technologies

Scotseal Plus's original elastomeric material has been reformulated to provide maximum sealing performance and longer life under virtually all driving and road conditions. Its outside diameter (OD) design allows the seal to be correctly installed by hand without special tooling. Scotseal Plus's features include:

* Advanced new HNBR (hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber) with high temperature resistance of up to 149°C.

* Broad capability with all popular synthetic fluid lubricants.

* Waveseal design continually sweeps oil back to the bearings.

* The 'fat footprint,' which is the beaded design of the seal, is forgiving of imperfections in the hub, bore and spindle, for better sealing.

* The advanced HNBR material has strong resistance to abrasives.

* The unitised design with four internal sealing lips keep road contaminations out and bearing lubricants in.

The only tools required to install Scotseal Plus XL are hands and slight lubrication of inside diameter (ID) and OD of the new seal with lube being retained. Rubber ID and OD eliminates contamination and four sealing lips keep out dirt and road splash.

The product was tested under extreme conditions in aggressive mud and water solutions far more severe than any road conditions and performed beyond expectations. Wheel end temperature can spike at 135°C at start up and Scotseal Plus XL's scientific development of an advanced formula material for high temperature tolerance extends this product's life expectancy and is an added defence against road contamination. Scotseal Plus XL seals will resist temperatures of up to 149°C and are ideally suited to heavy braking vehicles, eg, waste removal vehicles, buses, etc. The advanced formula material was specifically designed to cope with popular synthetic fluids that give longer life to vehicle components but can erode conventional rubber in seals.

The patented wave and seal design sweeps oil back to the bearing and the unique sinusoidal shape runs cooler and is longer lasting than conventional straight lip designs.

SKF has been a world leader in bearing and technology for close to 100 years and is also a leader in seals and related products.
