Improved hydraulic hose outer covers
First Quarter 2007
Hydraulic systems & components
Genflex Hydraulics of Alrode South, Gauteng, has just placed an order valued at R8 million with its overseas suppliers for hydraulic hose and fittings, due to increased sales as a result of the improved hydraulic hose outer cover that has been on test recently.
An upgrade of the standard hydraulic hose outer cover to make it more abrasion resistant has been tested at the Genflex Hydraulics testing laboratory as well as having undergone field trials at one of the mines over the last three months.
David Michelle, Genflex director said: "We are very pleased with the results of this new upgraded standard outer cover. Field trials have shown us that this improved hose outlasts the traditional hydraulic hose. Our Chinese principals are happy with our increased demand for hydraulic hose, but more importantly with our constant search to improve the quality and performance of the hose, to which they have responded very positively by investing in new machinery and expanding their manufacturing operations. The quality of the imported hose has most definitely improved, sharply, over the last 18 months.
"If hydraulic hose is good enough for the rugged and aggressive conditions in which it is utilised in South Africa, I believe it will be more than suitable for applications in other parts of the world."
Michelle concluded: "We believe that Genflex will continue to grow its sales at the current rapid pace. Especially now that the construction industry is in an upturn - with the start of the Gautrain Rail project and preparations for the 2010 Fifa World Cup underway."
Genflex is currently supplying over 70 000 metres of hydraulic hose per month.
