Vacuum generators - the answer to greater efficiency

First Quarter 2007 Pneumatic systems & components

Pneumatics specialist Festo is breaking new ground with solutions for efficient vacuum generation. Significant savings can be made when it comes to vacuum generation by using a decentralised solution. The company offers a complete vacuum product range, which includes monitoring solutions.

Thanks to its compact and light design, the vacuum generator VN can be installed exactly where the vacuum is needed. Short air lines ensure fast evacuation. The vacuum pumps that are used in the packaging industry can often only be installed centrally and therefore far away from the vacuum devices due to their size. Long lengths of tubing consume huge amounts of energy. Depending on the application, decentralised installation of the VN can provide an economical alternative to the pump with respect to energy, investment and maintenance costs.

The compact design of the VN family makes direct mounting on the suction cup possible. There is no need to install the reservoir, long lines and special vacuum valves that are used in the case of a pump. Short tubing lengths between the suction cup and vacuum generator ensure short evacuation times and permit use of a smaller vacuum generator which means lower energy consumption.

Simply install and forget - no wearing parts and minimal resistance filters mean that the VN series guarantees maintenance-free operation. Additional functions offered by the VN series make decentralised vacuum generation even more efficient. For example, a mechanical ejector pulse reliably releases the parts to be handled securely, while integrated electrical actuation means that vacuum generation can be tailored to suit specific requirements.

The vacuum generator VN-P makes monitoring within decentralised vacuum generation possible for the very first time, as vacuum monitoring is already integrated. This provides greater reliability. Using a piezo resistive pressure sensor, the VN-P registers whether a workpiece is still available or has been lost during transport.

Festo

With the extensive range of vacuum products from Festo, decentralised vacuum generation is child’s play. The wide selection of ejectors, suction cups and accessories provides quick, reliable and cost-effective solutions for every application. For users, this means maintenance-free vacuum generation, silencing and workpiece monitoring in a single housing.
