THK's Caged Ball third generation LM guides, the SNR and SNS, are ideal for predominant radial loads and for greater moment and reverse radial load capacity.
These compact guides offer smooth, high speed, long term, maintenance free operation for heavy and ultra heavy load applications, predominantly in the machine tool industry. The SNS model rated up to 5530 kN is available in rail widths of up to 85 mm. The guides provide a high level of rigidity which allows precise positioning to be achieved. They also have improved damping characteristics. These factors contribute to improved surface finish of machined components.
THK's patented Caged Ball technology comprises a durable retainer which holds balls at an equal distance apart in the raceway. This prevents the balls from impacting against one another, reducing rolling resistance variation to 1/10 of that of conventional systems which, in turn, reduces friction, noise levels, stress and heat.
Smooth operation is further enhanced through the incorporation of grease pockets between each ball bearing, providing a continual film of lubricant to prevent wear and to extend the frequency at which re-lubrication is required by up to 100 times that of conventional heavy duty guides.
The reduced noise level is regarded as a considerable safety benefit in many industrial environments.
Both the SNR and SNS guides are available in six heavy duty models and six ultra heavy duty models and in lengths to suit all requirements. The guides can be supplied in either standard flange form or compact form for applications where space is limited. Optional seal packages and contact scrapers are also available where an additional level of contamination protection is required.
