For use in harsh environments such as marine, offshore, and washdown applications Sun Hydraulics offers a range of corrosion resistant cartridge valves. External parts are made of stainless steel, with adjustment screws, where needed, of grade 5 titanium. Additionally, an anti-galling treatment is applied to all adjustment screws, and to the hex bodies of frame sizes 3 and 4.
These valves have been qualified by a 1000 hour salt spray test to ASTM B117-03 and feature Sun's unique floating style cartridge construction, which eliminates potential cartridge binding and minimises torque sensitivity. Valve performance and external dimensions of these valves are exactly as Sun's standard products. All valves fit existing Sun cavities and are rated to 350 bar (5000 psi) working pressure at all ports. Internal working components are heat treated and made from carbon and alloy steels.
Sun also manufactures a Tri-Grip Handknob kit with plastic and stainless steel parts that has equivalent corrosion protection. This handknob kit is for use with all Series 1, 2, 3 and 4 valves with L adjustment except counterbalance cartridges.
Manifolds, either catalogued or custom, may be ordered in 6061 aluminium, or specially-ordered in anodised aluminium, nickel-plated ductile iron, or stainless steel. Zinc plated manifolds should not be used with Sun corrosion resistant cartridges.
