Valve block offers application flexibility

Second Quarter 2008 Hydraulic systems & components

The M4 high pressure control valve from Rexroth is well-suited to application in commercial and municipal vehicle bodies as a result of its ease of operation and reliable control.

The valve block has a sandwich-plate design with up to 10 valve elements, an inlet and an end element, and is available in both open and closed centre systems. The integrated pressure compensators and the load-sensing-pressure control allow each actuator to be controlled independently of the load.

The load-sensing blocks from the M4-series are available in sizes 12 and 15 for inlet flows of 150 l/min or 200 l/min. The ratings for the maximum outlet-flow on the actuator side are 100 l/min and 150 l/min when using the pressure compensator and a load hold function. The pressure range is 350 bar on the pump side and 420 bar on the actuator side.

Optimised loading and unloading systems are designed with open centre inlet units. In this system the valve block permits highly sensitive proportional control of the individual loads. The actuating system can be mechanical, hydraulic or electro-hydraulic. An emergency cut-off valve can be integrated in the inlet unit.

Electronic units are available for analogue (voltage or PWM signal) and digital control (CAN). Because of its modular design the on-board-electronic unit can be combined with other actuating systems. If CAN control is used, daisy-chain wiring is possible. Time functions, as well as shape and gradient of the characteristic curve, can be modified directly via CAN. For example, a linear or progressive characteristic curve may be selected for an automatic function to suit the operating situation.

For special applications, as for example dump trucks, the M4-valve can be combined with a compact hydraulic valve. The Rexroth compact hydraulic systems are designed to follow a 'plug-and-play' principle. Modular technology is characterised by ease of maintenance, permitting component level or 'block' level exchanges in the field to simplify field serviceability and assist with cost rationalisation.
