SKF SA launches asset management system

Third Quarter 2008 Other technologies

SKF South Africa Reliability Systems recently introduced the SKF @ptitude Asset Management System that fully integrates all SKF hardware and software to provide a complete picture of information obtained through periodic and on-line condition monitoring data acquisition devices.

At the core of the system is the @ptitude Monitoring Suite, a comprehensive software suite that provides a common platform to view and analyse data from all SKF technologies, including Microlog vibration analysers, MARLIN inspection systems and Multilog On-line systems for continuous condition monitoring and on-line protection. Comprising @ptitude Analyst or @ptitude Inspector and @ptitude Observer, the software has a common look and feel to simplify the task of traversing between on-line information and periodic results in order to gain a complete up-to-the minute picture of asset condition.

@ptitude Analyst is a powerful software application for enterprise-wide communications with diagnostic and analytical capabilities. Analyst provides fast, efficient and reliable storage, analysis and retrieval of complex machine information, making information accessible throughout an organisation.

@ptitude Inspector, when combined with the SKF MARLIN family of data managers, provides a comprehensive solution for Operator Driven Reliability (ODR). This application supplies in-depth analysis and the ability to communicate machine condition between operations, maintenance, engineering and plant management.

@ptitude Observer is an expert-guided software and intelligent machine diagnostic for correct assessment of machines and processes providing expert advice without talking to an expert. Observer works with SKF Multilog On-line System IMx, MasCon 48 (all versions), MasCon 16 (all versions) and PerCon.

@ptitude Decision Support is a dedicated decision support software module that links with a range of data sources to facilitate accurate, timely, and consistent decision making and work order notification, within a single plant or across multiple facilities. By fusing knowledge from diverse sources, Decision Support provides the information essential to effective machine and process analysis, diagnosis, reporting and corrective action.

The @ptitude suite uses a common database manager and can share an Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server database manager for easier system administration and enterprise-wide integration. Consolidating data in one software suite facilitates analysis, report creation, producing plot overlays and interfacing with other plant-wide systems, such as @ptitude Decision Support, CMSS and DCS.

The software, designed to incorporate all current features, forms the foundation for future systems and new functionality, building on existing capabilities to add value for SKF customers. One software platform provides simple installation procedures, easy maintainability and options for customisation.

The system is scalable, allowing users to begin with periodic or on-line systems and can be expanded as requirements change to include additional monitoring hardware or for system-wide expansion, without complex IT conversions, additional staff training or different software configurations.
