Hydraulic torque wrench series launched

1st Quarter 2009 Hydraulic systems & components

Power Team, a member of the Hytec Group, recently launched its Predator series of electrical and air-driven pumps, and hydraulic torque wrenches.

The square drives are available in sizes of ¾”, 1”, 1½” and 2½” and the hydraulic torque wrenches with a hex drive up to 156 mm AF and torque capacity up to 39 000 Nm.

The Predator constant horse power (CHP) pump, available in air and electric versions, is the flagship of this range and offers unique features previously unavailable in this industry.

Hydraulic electric pump

This pump boasts high flow values when operating between 1000 and 5000 psi (6,9 MPa and 34,5 MPa) and smooth flow values through the entire pressure curve. Other benefits of the hydraulic electric pump include quiet operation, continuous duty operation and a hydraulic soft start, which enables more reliable and consistent start up in marginal power source applications. The pump comes with a remote pendant for direct manual control over tightening and loosening operations.

Air-driven pump

Like the electrically-driven model, this pump has been designed for heavy duty extended cycle operation. The hydraulic air pump features internal freeze protection and operates at an optimum oil temperature for increased performance and a longer operating life. The hydraulic air pump is ATEX II, CAT2 and GDcT5 compliant which means that it is able to operate in potentially explosive environments. This pump is driven by a powerful 4 HP (2,98 kW) air motor which can start under load.

Common pump features

Both models feature a pressure gauge that can be calibrated, a sealed hydraulic reservoir to minimise oil contamination, and modular pumping cartridges to simplify replacement. The pumps also feature a sturdy roll bar design for added protection and a four tool manifold, which allows for the use of up to four torque wrenches for greater worksite productivity.

Torque wrenches

The Predator torque wrenches feature a high strength, low weight design with a rigid steel body construction. Their weight is comparable to that of aluminium bodied wrenches, allowing for easy operation, while delivering a more rugged more reliable tool. The wrenches also feature fine tooth pawls which promote full tooth engagement, for a longer tool operational life. The torque wrenches are claimed to have 25% fewer parts than other wrenches, thus improving reliability.

The square drive torque wrench minimises the chance of operator injury with a fully enclosed drive mechanism, ensuring that pinch points on the tool are kept to an absolute minimum.

Both variants of torque wrench deliver an accurate torque output over the entire range of the stroking piston.

The combination of Predator hydraulic pumps, and torque wrench, provides a total powerful, safe and durable range of professional hydraulic bolting solutions. The range ensures that work on site is carried out at maximum efficiency with a minimum of operator risk.
