Valve islands integrate easily

2nd Quarter 2009 Pneumatic systems & components

The valve island Series Y from Camozzi is an electro-pneumatic valve system made up of modular pneumatic elements and modular electrical/electronic elements. The modules are available with 2, 4, 6 or 8 positions which accommodate 12,5 mm wide valve cartridges and the units are rated for 800 Nl/min flow.

The building blocks of the system comprise:

* The module, which incorporates the sub-base and valve seats.

* Two terminal plates on which it is possible to connect the inlet and exhaust.

* Cartridges with their respective spools which achieve the different valve functions.

* A cover with integrated electronics (including optional communications interfaces) distributing signals to the pilot valves on the cartridges.

Modules can be connected together to increase the number of valve positions.

Module

The sub-base supply porting supports two independent supplies. This allows the same valve to have different pressure values on outlets 2 and 4, thus a higher pressure can be used for the working operations and a lower pressure for the repositioning of the actuators, reducing the costs for generating compressed air. Further supply pressure flexibility can be achieved using special seals between modules to divide the island into various pressure zones without losing valve positions.

The design is such that there is no need to remove tubing to modify or maintain a valve position. This simplifies system maintenance and reconfiguration.

Cover

The multipole and Fieldbus versions use covers for the pilot valves providing IP65 protection. Integrated into the covers are:

* A manual override (monostable and bistable).

* Status LEDs for the solenoid valves.

* Diagnostic LEDs (only Fieldbus version).

* Sockets for the electrical connectors.

* Printed circuit boards.

The connection interface with the pilot valves is incorporated in the printed circuit board.

All outlets are protected against overvoltage, reversed polarity and short-circuit.

Fieldbus versions allow direct connection to fieldbuses like Profibus DP, DeviceNet and CANOpen, providing a cost-effective integrated automation solution.
