Pairing up motor and drive

Bonfiglioli’s servo solutions.

Combining Bonfiglioli’s BTD or BCR servomotors with Active Cube Series frequency converters provides a well-matched drive solution since the mathematical model of the motor is optimised within the drive system.

BTD-BCR Series servomotors

These brushless, sinusoidal motors are designed for three-phase, 200 V AC and 330 V AC power supplies, with free ventilation. All models are equipped with a thermistor temperature sensor and IP65 push-pull connectors (IP67 optional) conforming to EMC requirements.

BTD-BCR servomotors are particularly suited to robotic applications in plastic and metal machining, packaging, food and beverage processing, winding and textile industries. They are manufactured using the latest technology for optimised magnetic circuitry and electric motor windings and offer significantly improved torque reserve and motor longevity.

BTD-BCR product positioning: torque density vs. torque range

The differences between the BTD models and the BCR models lie in their construction, speed and torque capabilities, overload capacity and efficiency.

Both motor series are designed for four-quadrant operation and hence are able to provide dynamic and static (ie, standstill torque) braking. Where the standstill period of the duty cycle is lengthy, an optional electromechanical parking brake is available to assist with energy saving.

BTD Series

BTD (brushless torque density) Series servomotors employ advanced wound-pole technology. The small size of these actuators, achieved by the use of advanced materials and design technology, ensures exceptional dynamics and low temperature operation.

Main characteristics:

* Compact.

* High dynamic coefficient.

* High efficiency.

* Stall torque 0,26 to 27 Nm.

* Rated speeds 3000, 4500 rpm.

* Inertia from 0,26 to 1 Nm.

BCR Series

BCR (brushless classic range) Series servomotors employ advanced wound-stator technology. This series offers a wide torque range and above average instantaneous overload ratings, being well-suited to applications where significant accelerations are involved.

Main characteristics:

* Wide torque range.

* Up to 400% overload capacity.

* Stall torque 0,2 to 115 Nm.

* Rated speeds 2000, 3000, 4500 rpm.

* Inertia from 0,2 to 1 Nm.

Active Cube servo drive

BTD and BCR Series servomotors can only be controlled in speed and/or torque mode by a suitable electronic servo drive which constitutes an integral part of the drive system.

The combination of BTD and BCR servomotors with frequency converters from Bonfiglioli Vectron’s Active Cube Series and with Tecnoingranaggi or Bonfiglioli Riduttori gearboxes guarantees this synergy by optimising the mathematical model of the motor within the drive system using a self-teaching function assisted by the frequency converter’s configuration software.

The Bonfiglioli Active Cube (ACT3) series is designed to enable users to maximise the opportunities in machine automation.

The range includes single phase and 3-phase units, 230 V and 400 V supply, with the 3-phase product available rated up to 132 kW. Integrated and extensive logic functions provide users with the tools to set up the drive according to their needs. Process and machine safety needs are catered for in Active Cube, thanks to the ‘safety oriented’ functions included in the standard drive. Communication with programmable logic controllers, PCs and industrial display systems is provided by the wide set of fieldbus protocols available, while the Bonfiglioli proprietary System bus network allows extremely fast and reliable dialogue for synchronisation and/or data exchange with other Bonfiglioli drives in the system.

VPlus engineering and configuration software includes advanced and effective tools for diagnostics.
