Saving energy with Lindos

3rd Quarter 2011 Hydraulic systems & components

Saving costs and reducing energy consumption are significant factors in all areas of industry. There is a demand for economical, highly effective components and systems which can increase the performance levels of plants and improve their competitiveness.

A full hydrostatic drive requires highly efficient pumps and motors. Current piston pumps and motors have a peak efficiency of around 93%. A pump-motor combination could therefore in theory have an efficiency of 86% maximum. In reality, the part load operation of the hydrostatic machines reduces the efficiency of both the pump and the motor. In a wheel loader, about half of the fuel consumption is accounted for by the hydraulic cylinders. The other half goes to the wheels for the propulsion of the vehicle. The engine is usually operated at a load of less than 50% of the maximum load and engine efficiency deteriorates significantly. At a load of 20% the specific fuel consumption of an engine can be twice as high as at the optimum or sweet point.

Lindos Hydraulics has the experience and expertise to help customers optimise their hydrostatic drive systems, even on mobile equipment. The company can assist with hydraulics, drives, equipment implementation and customising an application. Its implementation methodologies and component selection reduce risk and ensure project success. In addition to this Lindos stocks a large range of hydraulic components and gearboxes with well known international proprietary brands, as well as designing and manufacturing hydrostatic and industrial power systems. Completing the one-stop package, Lindos can also undertake comprehensive repairs to pumps and motors and assist with onsite fault and failure analysis.
