Sun Hydraulics has introduced a range of explosion-proof coils, making it possible to use high-performance Sun solenoid valves in hazardous environments. The company has been in the business for over 40 years and is a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance screw-in hydraulic cartridge valves and manifolds. These provide control for hydraulic systems that are used in many types of industrial mobile equipment and machinery.
The new coils are available as ATEX-certified or CSA-certified options and can be used with many of Sun’s 350 bar solenoid-operated directional and electro-proportional cartridge valves. To meet certification requirements the explosion-proof coil must be configured with the cartridge valve and sold as a complete cartridge/coil assembly – it cannot be purchased separately. Using Sun’s explosion-proof coils and cartridges in a critical application ensures CE compliance and an IP67 rating. The coils are also RoHS compliant, containing less than 0,1% by weight of dangerous restricted substances commonly used in electronic equipment.
Coil windings utilise NEMA-MW-80, Class F (1550C) magnet wire. They have integral internal thermal and current fuse protection, with high operational reliability due to the floating construction of the cartridge. They also allow high flow rates relative to their physical size. These explosion-proof coils can be used with most of Sun’s 24 V DC directional control products.
