Quick release screw-on couplings

1st Quarter 2014 Hydraulic systems & components

Designed for earthmoving and construction applications, Faster’s FHV range of quick release screw-on couplings can be used on drilling rig machines, trenchless drill machines, demolition machines, scraper machines, XL excavators and heavy cranes. They are the interface between a machine (power source) and its hydraulic attachment so high performance is critical, and Faster’s couplings step up to the mark.

Once connected, a special external safety sleeve mounted on the female coupling prevents the couplers from unscrewing as a result of vibrations or flexible hose torsion. They are equipped with a special hardened Rd connection thread with a rounded shape and two start threads and this minimises the connection time and also the presence of dirt or pieces of sand. An internal ball-bearing device makes the female adaptor completely free of rotation on its axis.

A zinc-nickel coating treatment gives them excellent corrosion resistance. Using the most advanced fluid mechanic analysis systems, the internal components have been designed to minimise the localised pressure drop. A result of Faster’s polyurethane sealing technology, the main seals have a special patented profile which guarantees the best balance between sealing performance, fluid compatibility and wear resistance.

With a maximum working pressure up to 46 MPa, the couplings exceed the ISO 7241-2 requirements, passing 106 impulse cycles at 133% of working pressure connected and 105 impulse cycles at 133% of working pressure in disconnected condition. Thanks to the high grade carbon steel and dedicated heat treatments, all the couplings show a very high burst resistance, respecting a 4:1 safety factor in coupled or uncoupled conditions.
