Next generation particle contamination monitor

Fourth Quarter 2020 Hydraulic systems & components

Parker Hannifin has launched the icount LaserCM30 particle contamination monitor, a user-friendly field diagnostic device that allows service personnel to quickly and easily assess the cleanliness of hydraulic fluid or oil in a wide range of applications and industries. This next generation fluid system contamination monitoring device carries out test procedures in under 90 seconds. It includes multi standard ISO 4406, NAS 1638, AS4059 and GOST cleanliness reporting, data entry and integral printing.

Featuring microprocessor-controlled optical scanning, the icount LaserCM30 provides accurate contaminant measurement with a calibration range from ISO 0 to ISO 22 with no monitor saturation. The particles are measured by a photodiode that converts light intensity to a voltage output, which is recorded against time. As the particle moves across the window, the amount of light lost is proportional to the size of the particle. This reduction in voltage is measured and stored in one of six channels according to particle size. Additional sizes are calculated for reference purposes. Readouts are displayed on the handheld LCD in the accepted ISO/AS and NAS standards, ready for printing or download. Up to 1000 test results can be stored.

Operating the device is as simple as pressing the start button on the handset. Special diagnostics are incorporated into the icount LaserCM30’s microprocessor control to ensure effective contamination monitoring of oil systems and liquid fuels, thereby saving time and money. Contamination monitoring is also now possible during application operation, reducing production downtime.

How to protect against water hammer
SA Gauge Editor's Choice Hydraulic systems & components
Water hammer is a high-pressure surge or wave created by the kinetic energy of moving fluid when it is rapidly forced to stop or change direction, altering the liquid’s velocity. The progression of the water hammer shockwave needs to be detained and slowed before reaching the instrument sensor. SA Gauge manufactures several such devices in order to achieve this.
