It is with a heavy heart that I spread the word of two prominent members of the fluid power industry who have passed on over the past couple of months.
Eksteen Brand, who has been within the fluid power industry for over twenty years, unfortunately was involved in a fatal car crash returning from site during the last week of October. His family has been in the thoughts and prayers of those close to them. Rest in peace Eksteen.
Dustin Pereira.
Keith Mullen sadly also unexpectedly passed away on the 1st of October. Heartfelt condolences go out to Mrs Penny Mullen, and his colleagues and friends. Rest in peace Keith.
In SAFPA news, the first virtual AGM took place on the 22nd of October, a first for the council as this was a hybrid with some members at the VDW offices and most attending online. Two council members stepped down to make way for new blood. Thank you to Willem Gijzelaar who has been a long standing member of the council and has dedicated countless hours to ensuring the success of SAFPA. I too have stepped down to allow other company members of Hydac to stand on the council.
News with regards to training is that a pilot run of the virtual hose and safety course was executed with various stakeholders attending. With a few suggestions and tweaks, the course will now be rolled out and advertised. Watch all the SAFPA online platforms for further information as well as marketing of the course.
I trust that the new board will roll out the social participative events for 2021 based on the risk of COVID-19 and let the membership know the prospective dates.
I am handing over the reins to Michael Abbot as the new incoming president of SAFPA, and wish him and the board all the best in making a success of SAFPA in its future endeavours.
Stay safe and healthy, Kind Regards Dustin Pereira
