At the SAFPA AGM held on 21 May, Brett Wallace, managing director of Festo South Africa, gave a fascinating presentation on Festo’s Bionic Learning Network. Inspired by nature, Festo has developed a whole range of bionic robots to provide inspiration for technical applications and industrial practice.

Eugene Tondolo, Michael Abbot and Craig Sim were due to retire from the council but Eugene and Michael were available for re-election. Eugene Tondolo (Axiom Hydraulics) is president and Walter Zimmmerman (Hydraulic Training & Consulting) is vice president of the new committee. The other members are Willem Gijzelaar (Hytec), Manny Vieira (Hydraulic & Pneumatic Hub), Russell Gill (Engineering & Hydraulic Services), Michael Abbot (CT Hydraulics), Wessie van der Westhuizen (Pirtek) and Dustin Pereira (BMG).
