It’s been quite a tumultuous time in the industry, with fuel prices soaring and conflict in the Middle East affecting supply routes and production across the world, but business must continue as usual.
It seems that whenever there is unrest the commodity market booms, and mining and mining related businesses pick up. This has therefore had a positive impact on the fluid power industry.
The SAFPA membership is steady, with a few new members joining from month to month. Currently we have 23 individual members, 43 corporate members, 14 country members and 1 subsidiary member. The association is financially sound. Various initiatives are being driven by the council, and you can keep abreast of these initiatives on the LinkedIn, Facebook and X accounts. Further communication is sent out via email. If you are not receiving these emails, please contact our secretariat at [email protected] to ensure you are added to the database.
Currently we are busy arranging a symposium during an afternoon in October this year. Please be on the lookout for publications about the content and dates for this event. The symposium aims to provide employees of member companies with an opportunity to be exposed to specific content, with experts in the industry allowing for further skills development. Please watch this space for notifications about this symposium.
Upcoming events include:
Mountain bike ride: 20 November 2026 at the Prime View circuit
Golf Day: 19 August 2026 at Bryanston Country club
Soccer Day: The event will be held at Boksburg stadium, with the date announced closer to the time.
We hope to have good attendance for these events, with a bit of socialising amongst members
of the industry.
I hope that there will soon be an end to the conflict in Iran, that people are secure and safe, and that there will be a return to some normality around fuel prices and trade routes so that we can focus again on important tasks at hand.
A note to the readers in the Western and Northern Cape: I truly hope you were safe during the recent storms across the provinces and that the cleanup happens soon.
Regards,
Dustin Pereira
