UPSs for applications in 10 to 250 kVA range

Fourth Quarter 2004 Other technologies

Uninterruptible power supply distributor, Meissner, has recently launched its PowerWare PB4000. The system provides power protection for computer and data processing, telecommunications systems as well as the industrial control and telecontrol process.

Available in 10 kVA to 250 kVA configurations, the PB4000 comes with advanced power management (APM) functionality, enabling the product to grow with any business. Rather than having to replace the system, up to eight PB4000 units of any power rating can be connected together to run in parallel on either hot or cold standby.

The PB4000 can be interfaced with building management systems and network controlled via SNMP, Novell, Windows NT, Unix, DEC and IBM, to name but a few. The connectivity software allows multiserver shutdown via a simple network connection and can be either mimicked remotely or connected to a PC.

"In these days of information overload, it is essential to get clear and accurate data in the format you use," says Graham Beyleveld, sales director at Meissner. "The PB4000 speaks any language whether it is from man to machine, or machine to machine. Part of the PB4000 global communications package is the ability to dial out to a pager system or service network and display warning messages from any remote location.

The PB4000 has a small footprint and is ergonomically designed for ease of use. The product has an easy to read mimic display that gives the user the facts at a glance without the need to scroll through menus. Borri's line of modular battery cabinets is designed for use with the PB4000 UPS models. The product is designed to have the same height and depth as the UPS model with which it is being used. Ease of access and servicing has been taken into account as all cabinets have front entry access.

All the battery cabinets are equipped with an automatic circuit breaker for over current protection, an auxiliary contact for the indication of the circuit breaker position and a trip coil to open the circuit breaker remotely in case of emergency power-off.
