Elquip acquires second CNC grinding machine for blade sharpening facility

Third Quarter 2006 Other technologies

Elquip Solutions, an established local provider of quality global electrical, automation, mechanical and consumable products, has recently acquired a second blade-sharpening machine. The reason is to ensure that it can meet the growing demand from customers for circular saw blade restoration. Mike Cronin, managing director of Elquip Solutions, says: "We have always prided ourselves on being able to provide our customers with an outstanding blade-sharpening service with a turnaround period of less than 24 hours."

"Recently we have found that the local demand for this service was placing increasing pressure on our existing sharpening facilities. To ensure that we are able to continue to provide the excellent standard of service that our clients have come to expect from Elquip Solutions, we have purchased a new CNC grinding machine.

"Our biggest advantage is that we work extremely closely with Kinkelder, our vendor partner in Holland. Kinkelder supplies a quality range of high speed steel sawblades, segmental sawblades, tungsten carbide-tipped sawblades, friction sawblades and other cutting tools. The quality of these blades is such that re-sharpening to original specifications and cutting quality is a cost-effective solution, which restores blades to functioning at maximum efficiency time and time again," Cronin explains.

"Over the five decades that Kinkelder has been in existence, the company has built up considerable specialisation and expertise through its experience in the sawblade market. As such, the technical specialists within Kinkelder use this expertise to train their partners, such as Elquip Solutions, in state-of-the-art computer-controlled sharpening methods for quick, efficient, and accurate servicing and repair of cutting tools." The training from Kinkelder ensures that Elquip is able to provide re-sharpened blades that comply with high quality global standards.

Cronin concludes: "We believe that by offering our clients this sharpening service we are able to go straight to the heart of several key concerns for industry. These include turning around sharpening requests in 24 hours or less, thereby minimising machine downtime." The company also restores the cutting edge to its original specification, thereby making a sharpened blade literally 'as good as new'. This radically improves on traditional expectations of productivity from a re-sharpened blade.
