The Flying Lions aerobatic team is set to take the airshow circuit by storm in four Harvards, displaying the colours of new sponsor, Eqstra Holdings. The intention is to promote interest in technical education and training among young people.
Eqstra is a well known industrial and mining group, with core activities in the distribution, long-term lease and rental of mobile capital equipment, opencast contract mining and heavy equipment plant rental. This includes passenger and commercial vehicles, forklifts, cranes, tractors and mining trucks.
The World War II, two seater Harvard advanced military trainer forms the backbone of South Africa’s aviation heritage. Designed in the 1940s, the Harvard T-6 has been used as a trainer by the South African Air Force for almost 60 years. Many generations of pilots learnt to fly in this aircraft. As a result the feelings of nostalgia and emotion that this aircraft evokes at airshows is very tangible.
The famous Flying Lions aerobatic team will become the company’s brand ambassadors at air shows and various outdoor events countrywide. “We are proud to be associated with the Flying Lions, who have a reputation for excellence and professionalism – values that Eqstra emphasises in their delivery of service to their customers,” says CEO, Walter Hill. The Flying Lions comprises well known aerobatic pilots Arnie Meneghelli, Scully Levin, Ellis Levin and Stewart Lithgow.
