I trust all our readers are safe and healthy during these troubled times. COVID-19 has thrown the industry and South Africa into turmoil over the past few months. Some companies may not make it through this difficult period and the ones that do will come out looking very different.
Unfortunately many companies may not be in a position to trade or sustain income. Therefore many employees may be directly affected. Details for income relief for businesses, UIF and other government initiatives were circulated by Cost Time Resources. Due to restrictions regarding social gatherings, the committee has not been in a position to meet since February and all current projects have been put on hold. With the easing of restrictions from June onwards and the possibility of industry returning to a new normal on a slow recovery, the SAFPA council needs to decide on the way forward, as the scheduled AGM date has passed. Therefore the existing council is continuing to act in the interim until an election and AGM can take place.
The next council meeting may take place via an online platform to confirm the way forward regarding the interim council and a date may be set for the AGM. The review of the ‘Guide to pressure equipment in the fluid power industry’ can be discussed and formalised for print media and then distributed once the backlog of print has been completed. This will then be distributed at the AGM.
In order to assist companies during these difficult times, the council has requested that half of the subsidies will either be refunded or credited to the various members. The logistics and financial mechanism must still be discussed at a council meeting, but the members will be informed in due course.
