In the last quarter SAFPA has had a number of projects on the go. One has been the revamping and updating of the SAFPA website to give it a new look and feel.
SAFPA’s Pressure Vessel sub-committee has now delivered the final version of its publication entitled ‘Guide to Pressure Equipment in the Fluid Power Industry’, and it is ready for release to the fluid power industry. The pressure vessel legislation relating to the OHSACT, Mine Health and Safety Act, and Merchant Shipping Act is overviewed, showing its impact on the following fluid power products: accumulators, hydraulic piping, hydraulic cylinders, pneumatic cylinders, air receivers and manifold blocks. This will be placed on the new website.

SAFPA is also busy with our HS Code project. Over the years we have struggled to get an industry survey going, so we are now attacking the project in a different way. We have put together trade statistics for all the codes relating to fluid power from the Harmonised System for classifying goods. This will give members the value of the industry broken up into the different sections. It will give a basic overview of the size of the industry per HS code, what the section has brought in over various time periods, and an idea of the size of the industry and how it has grown or retracted. SAFPA companies will be able to measure themselves against these numbers. This will soon be launched on the new website. Access will be protected, so only SAFPA members can view this information.
SAFPA is always interested in new projects, and if any members have something/a project they would like to be investigated, please approach one of the council members to discuss.
Stay safe and healthy
Kind regards
Michael Abbot
