SAFPA: From the President’s desk

Third Quarter 2021 SAFPA

Welcome to all.

During these strange and trying times we currently live in, life has to carry on − but with a difference. SAFPA recently concluded its very first ‘on-line AGM’ and with the responses received, this was a great success. Although these online meetings do not have the same personal interaction most of us enjoy, they are nonetheless the way of the future for meetings.

SAFPA President, Michael Abbot.

Together with our monthly online meetings and with the aid of VDW, SAFPA is now more socially visible. We are now using LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram. All SAFPA Members are free to send any news, new product releases, technical upgrades and any other information on their products to VDW or the SAFPA council where we will gladly have the information posted. As we all know (allbeit the younger generation understands and uses it more readily), social media is definitely the new advertising platform of the future and opportunities should be used when available.

As mentioned in the AGM, the SAFPA committee has now completed the Pressure Vessel Guide, which is available to all SAFPA members free on the newly upgraded SAFPA website. As also previously mentioned, the SAFPA website has received a breath of fresh air. Numerous changes have been made and many mistakes corrected. I ask each SAFPA member to take some time and peruse the new site, ensuring his or her details are firstly, there and secondly, correct.

Unfortunately training has slowed down dramatically in all aspects, mainly due to the continuous Covid lockdowns. The two-day Hose and Safety course presented by Colin Hood has completed one successful online training course. Council members are urging companies to offer this training to any members who continuously deal with hoses in their workplace. We are also asking SAFPA members to please pass the message on to their clients using hydraulic or pneumatic equipment. All equipment uses some sort of hose. Safety training is imperative for all personnel using this equipment in order to ensure a safe working environment. This hose safety course can only be a success with support from all parties.

On the social platform, unfortunately due to the constant changes in legislation due to the various waves of Covid, all events were cancelled for the year. At our next council meeting, we will be discussing the possibility of some form of social distancing event later in the year should the levels be lifted and the infection rates dramatically reduce.

For the remainder of 2021, wishing you all a safe and successful year.

Regards

Michael Abbot.
