SAFPA: From the President’s desk

First Quarter 2022 SAFPA

SAFPA President, Michael Abbot.

Welcome to the new year. Here’s hoping that the worst of Covid is over and we can start getting back to a normal life.

Membership survey

SAFPA recently conducted a survey of our members which resulted in some interesting feedback. Of the respondents, 100% supported the idea of a technical bulletin containing announcements, advertisements, advertorials, case studies, training, event calendars and new members, as well as links to the social media channels of the association. SAFPA will be sending an invitation to members to contribute advertising and other material for publication. Another outcome of the survey was the support for the existing leadership of SAFPA and the direction it is taking.

Technical training

Online communication is now part of our life and SAFPA’s successful series of online technical training meetings is ongoing. Plans are afoot for sessions in March and May on various topics such as seals, castings and forgings.

Sporting events

Sadly the cycling day had to be postponed as a result of extreme weather. This will be rescheduled once the weather is more reliable and the cycle track is once again user-friendly. The layout of the course is perfect for all levels of cyclists to participate while enjoying some face-to-face socialising in the outdoors during and after the event. A new date will be given as soon as possible.

Social media

The social media pages have been linked via an RSS tool to multiple industry sources, allowing people to use SAFPA’s social media pages as a single access point to a wide variety of industry news, both local and global. All SAFPA Members are free to send any news, new product releases, technical upgrades and any other information on their products to VDW or the SAFPA council and we will gladly have the information posted on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Ongoing projects

The SAFPA committee has completed the Pressure Vessel Guide, which is available to members free on the newly revamped SAFPA website. The two day online Hose and Safety course presented by Colin Hood is also available on demand. Safety training is critical for workers using high pressure equipment and this course contributes to ensuring that only fully certified and approved hose assembly products, assembled in the manner recommended by the original hose and coupling supplier, are sold to the customer.

SAFPA is also involved in other projects, such as keeping track of the relevant standards that apply in our industry. We keep up to date with international fluid power trends on an ongoing basis through our relationship with overseas associations such as the British Fluid Power Association.

Best wishes to all
