SAFPA: From the President’s desk

Second Quarter 2025 SAFPA

Uven Moodley.

It’s been a difficult time in the industry. Globally, OEM spending has seen a noticeable slowdown and the effects of increased USA tariffs combined with local budget delays have created a challenging environment for many of our members.

SAFPA’s Annual General Meeting is scheduled for 22 May 2025 and all members will have received an invitation. This is an important opportunity not just to stay informed, but to actively shape the direction of our organisation. We encourage attendance and participation to ensure that we have a diversified representative council going forward.

Regarding SANS 347 and pressure equipment regulations (PER), we are forming a sub-committee which could include a committee member of SANS 347. The objectives of the sub-committee are:

• Determine the SABS wording around classification of pressure vessels in the fluid power field.

• Populate a handbook for member companies with regard to the legislation and its role relating to fluid power products.

• Engage with approved inspection authorities (AIAs) to confirm the requirements for new imports, systems and integration, and maintenance of pressure vessels in the field.

• Engage with key users about the SANS requirements for fluid power pressure vessels.

On the social side, we have organised a SAFPA golf day, and invitations have been sent out to members. We are looking forward to a full turnout and a successful, fun-filled day.
