ECSA has launched a national engineering skills survey to investigate the extent of available engineering skills in South Africa. The survey was initiated by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and is supported by the Departments of Higher Education and Training and Economic Development as well as engineering associations. Data obtained through this survey will help build up an updated picture of the country’s available engineering skills, guide future action required to strengthen the skills pipeline and address needs voiced by the industry.
The launch took place in Bryanston, Johannesburg on 8 October 2013. The speaker panel included ECSA council member, Dr Allyson Lawless, DHET deputy director-general for special projects, Dr Adrienne Bird and ECSA acting CEO, Edgar Sabela.
